Ibu & Halaman Buku: Read Aloud at Ramatama Family Resto

Lately, Jakarta’s weather has been changing a lot—sudden downpours followed by scorching sunshine. But despite the shifting skies, the spirit of the Kayabaca and ibu2ID community to foster a love for reading remains unwavering.

Last Sunday, May 25, 2025, we held another Read Aloud event, part of our monthly Ibu & Halaman Buku (Mom & Pages) program. This time, we gathered at Resto Ramatama Taman Aries, a cozy family restaurant that feels just like home—warm, welcoming, and perfect for a Sunday morning storytime.

Our storyteller for the day was Kak Amalia from the Read Aloud West Jakarta team—a book lover known for her expressive and engaging storytelling. She read “Who Threw the Shoe?”, Kayabaca’s latest translated title originally written by a Vietnamese author and illustrator. The story was lighthearted, mysterious, and funny, and from the very first page, everyone in the room was hooked: who on earth threw the shoe that disrupted the crocodile’s nap?

About 10 children joined the event, sitting quietly and attentively as they followed every word. Their curiosity and excitement were visible in their expressions, and it wasn’t just the kids—parents also seemed to enjoy the story, smiling, laughing, and sometimes even answering along with their children.

After the story ended, we had a fun quiz to see how well the kids had listened—and to our delight, they all got the answers right! To celebrate, Kayabaca gave out small gifts that instantly brought even more joy to their faces.

The morning closed with relaxed conversations between parents, children, and the organizing team. Many parents shared how grateful they were for events like this—not just as fun weekend activities, but as meaningful moments to connect with their children through stories and books.

ibu2ID and Kayabaca are committed to continuing the Ibu & Halaman Buku series every month, each time in a different location, but always with the same mission: to bring warmth, togetherness, and a deep love for reading into Indonesian families.
